Informal real live tournament
Posted: Nov 5, 2002, 6:02 PM

Howdy all!

A bunch of us have been talking the last couple of days about getting together for a tournament in Vegas or possibly Reno in March or April (someone suggested May). We're trying to find out how many people would be interested in going. This tournament is going to happen no matter what There are about 10 of us who decided to do this to start. It's just a questuion of how many people show up. If you are interested, or even just slightly piqued, go to Play Pente and sign up. This is just to get an idea of how many people want to participate. Make suggestions for dates and times in the form at that page referenced above.

I would love to go. here is thep roblem. GOing to Las Vegas costs money. I do not have money. BUt if I can somehow get there to play I would be interested, especially if a large number of people were ging to try and play.

That is true. It does cost money. But I was looking at airfares and such and there are several good deals for Vegas AND Reno. On the order of $89 for a 3 day/2 night stay airfare and hotel.

89 dollars for airfare AND a 3 night hotel stay? Are you serious? amn, it costs 200 dollars for a hotel for one night in NYC.... 90 dollars is certainly doable.. but it sounds too good to be true...

You are right. I apologize for the confusion. It's $89/night. Basically there are a few packages that I found that come to about $250-$270 for a 3day/2night stay which includes airfare. I also found some hotels for like $9/night Yes that's $9/night. So some in the general area could drive there. But anyway, it's certainly doable I think. Here's a link for the packages I foudnt his morning. http://www.tripreservations.com/lasvegas/index.cfm?FuseAction=Packages
But also there are always cheap packages in the paper, so check your local paper and see. Vegas likes to have peopel get there so they can blow their retirement in the casinos.

I would say that $250 dollars is about the right price for a 3 day 2 night stay (in old vegas, which is a WAY COOLER area than new Vegas, as far as I'm concerned). That's about what I pay each year that I go. I'm cheap, and I like to have as much money as possible for gambling. Craps!!! What a great game. Anyway, if you add in some cash for spending and a doing a bit of gambling, I think you can do it for around $500 bucks. So, start saving NOW!!! I WILL THERE FOR SURE!!! I hope to see you there as well.

ok, everyone get a pool together.. if you all chip in some money, then I can go to the tournament and whip all your asses! ha!

seriously though, I have almost no income... making it out to vegas will be tough....

and if I am there, I am going to want ot do a lot of gamblking...

mayve after the vegas tournament, then ext one cna be in nYC (where I cna drive to and have free room and board).

hay, how about if I sleep on a cot on hthe floor of someone;s hotel room? will that save me some money?

Let me suggest that if we are going to try a national tournament, Las Vegas is probably one of the cheapest places to fly that there is. The casinos want to keep it that way, so people will come gamble. Also, any other major "hub" airport like Dallas-Ft. Worth, are cheap.

This sounds fun, but I think I've spent most of my money for next year going to nascar races. On the cost side of things....if you can setup your travel dates from a Thursday to Monday, you can get some pretty good deals. We booked everything through expedia.com (just didn't get particular about travel times, airlines, or routes).

Example: Wife & I are going to Las Vegas for the Winston Cup race on March 2. Leave Richmond VA Thursday, return on Tuesday. Rental car, airfare and 3 star hotel (Stratoshpere Hotel) for $600 each, taxes etc included.

u may not believe this but bring 2X what u yhink u'll need to gamble. the charters are usually 3_4days. this sounds great!! count me in!!

Howdy all. Just an update. The tournament has been moved to Oklahoma City since more people will be able to attend. Dweebo gave me the locations of most players and most players live within easy traveling distance of OK, we moved it to OKC. Also, this allows a lot of people to fly cheap airlines like Southwest to OKC. Looking at most cities, with 14 day advanced notice, the airfare is $99 round trip. Even from Boston!

I'm really gettign excited about it, folks. I think it's going to be great!

As a sidenote, I am going to set up a way to post that you would like to room with someone on playpente.com, so hopefully that will help a lot of people keep costs down.
