If I get Ants, AlQaholic or Brenetiks to sign up then you play. It's probably 3 am there and I don't think they can get to 1800 in the next 4 hours even if I do wake them up lol

I've been trying to get one of them on board for weeks. I offered to play a tb set real time and draw it in order for someone from there to qualify. A drawn TB set by someone from there against me would more than qualify them for entrance. They just aren't interested. Believe me, I tried...
ETA: Meikop is online and has a 2k+ pente rating, hit him up if you want... I don't know what his renju rating is, but no matter.

Hi,can I just confirm I'm right in thinking, that once I start a tournament game, I'm not allowed to try out positions/moves on a second board, even though it's turn based?
Sorry if I'm asking the obvious, but I'm new to this!

In turn based play, analysis on a second board is generally considered a quite valid (indeed essential) approach to the game by top players.

Oh, that's good to hear. I just thought it might be different in a tournament. Thanks for clearing that up Watsu!

No problem. By the way, database searches to see what an opponent has done in a position in the past (or for other purposes) are also considered part of turn based preparation and play by top players, including but not limited to in tournament play. Whether and how one uses the database during the middle of a game is up to each player, but you can bet on it being used during tournaments for positions in play...

Last minute in house recruitment on my part brought it up to 7 sections. I'm playing, but won't commit to finishing at this point...

Karl after round one finishes you should do a round one commentary

Would make more sense to have someone not in the tournament provide the commentary, but since presumably all of the active top players are in the tournament, I'd be willing to write a postmortem for each round. Don't expect me to analyze important lines in too much detail though--I'm trying to win this tournament, after all.

Well I did see jayhawklover browsing. Post Mortom is ok. But find an appropriate balance between delightfully entertaining and not damaging future rounds in a way that could be unethical premeditated kibitzing.

Also I think make it it's own thread.

Actually, I'd prefer that public first round analysis by a master player not occur (ETA: while the tournament is in progress). Opposition research becomes that much more difficult if a master player says so and so blundered here but still managed to win anyway, etc.
ETA: I suppose once both players in a tournament game are eliminated from the tournament a post mortem would be marginally acceptable. However, openings and preferred lines differ between top players, so what one player might not consider for an opening move or moves another might plan to use. On the whole, I think it's best not to attempt this. Otherwise, I think it'd be fair game for other top players to comment on moves and lines they aren't planning to use in the tournament once both players are eliminated.

Any word from spavacz? He's now used half of his vacation days. Obviously he can buy more, but we'd rather this not be a repeat of the 2015 championship, if you catch my drift...
