Back in the old days we used to wonder how teaming up a red and a blue against two yellows might go... each member of the team takes a turn picking the next move for their team's pieces. Not sure it was ever actually tried though. Admittedly a different game than described here, but it would have four participants.

The nice thing about this version is it doesn't take any new code, just the will to play it by players. Unrated, doubtless, but might be fun nonetheless.

I wasn't really thinking about Team Pente, but rather about having more than two colors able to play on the board, like the physical version has (4 different colors on the board I have from Winning Moves, meaning up to four different people could play individually against each other in the same game). Would that be possible for a future version of Pente on the Pente.org website?

I knew what you were referring to, just offering an in the meantime possibility. You'd have to check with rainwolf to find out his latest plans for the site, but I think new variants may be on the back burner a bit in favor of automatic tournaments. In the longer term, perhaps.

"Time to start picking teams then. Me and Watsu (Waterbeasts) vs karlw and carlw (Team qarlw)." Or, perhaps the qarlw team vs. the riii team ( richardiii and rlwiii) vs. The Pentegon team (pente_gon and pentegone) in a round robin.
smoke and nosmo_king should probably not be paired, though.

Well, in unrated for fun games strategy passing shouldn't theoretically be an issue. I guess if it ever gets coded so that both players can place stones and it's rated if strategy sharing is a concern the timer could be used to limit the ability to do that within a game; tough to share a lot in real time on a 1/5 or less timer, I think.
