i tried looking for it and no luck yet. i haven't the patients to check all of my last 200 wins to find it.

and there is the remote possibility that it was a game i spectated recently but i doubt it. any how i clearly remember seeing it and commented on it in this last month.

ill take a look again tomorrow perhaps

I searched through Z's last 200 wins- going back over 3 months in the db, but was unable to find a win with both 5 caps and five in a row. Maybe I missed it, but i was pretty careful.
I don't know whether it takes more skill or not, but personally I prefer to win with 7 captures and 4 unblocked nine in a rows.

Retired from TB Pente, but still playing live games & exploring variants like D, poof and boat

Yeah , pretty cool Z, but I know a way to make a split capture where there are 17 spaces between the 2 stones being captured, Oh yeah , I forgot someone told Dweebo
about this , so now it can't be done,....or can it ?

Seems like, one capture can lead to another for several different structures. And it is a much more common occurance to see those structures torn down on the way to 5 captures; than it is to see 5 stones line up out of such chaos.

Most games are a function of structure. In general, pairs get formed and attacked by forcing someone to block of 3's and 4's. Some games might trade off captures, even to the end. But most of the time, its a 3 or a 4 forcing the issue.

Lastly, 5 stones in a row demands more force in one location. But capturing pairs can be totally disconnected.

Any game can be an exception to those tendancies; but for these reasons, it seems to me winning by capturing pairs is easier (in general).
