Original Deluxe Wooden/Linen Pente Set signed by Gabrel
Posted: Nov 13, 2015, 11:33 PM

Hi there Pente Fans!

I have recently acquired what appears to be a very unique Pente Set! I was able to gather some general information from Google; however, I was hoping that one or more of the members from this forum could provide a little more insight. The obvious question I have is, what's it worth? What might I expect to get from a Pente collector? How unique/rare is this set?

Here's what I know

It's a wooden board, apparently imported from Finland and then covered with a linin-like material for durability. It is numbered, signed, and dated as follows: #1572, Gabrel, 1979. It has a vinyl carrying case, 4 suede bags and colored glass pieces, instruction manual, certificate of production, and warranty card. If it's been played I would suspect not very much as it's in perfect condition.

What do I have here?!?! Thanks in advance!

I have seen this wood board many times before without being too impressed, but all in all what you have here is exceptional. I can't determine a value for it. The wood board alone and unsigned usually goes between $75 to $125 I believe. The glass boards go between $150 and $350.
For your set I might guess between $150 to $250. But this is opinionated loose estimate that holds little to no weight. The pente board market fluxuates. So, it's current FMV will be what ever a person is willing to pay at the time. I suggest eBay option. Starting bid $125. Any hoo, thanks for the show and good luck.

P.s., I think there are 2000 of these, and unlike the glass board, none of these broke because built to last forever. Therefore not rare, except for you have all original stuff with it. The accessories are the value. The signature is on all 2000 I think.
