No, the silver crown is specifically for tourneys that are players rated 1700 and below. This is a all ranks tourney, and there for a gold crown tourney.

ok cool
but couldnt the format be set up to where the 1000 to 1700 players play for the silver crown and the 1700+ players play with the winner of each advancing as the champions to compete for the gold crown?

That's tricky.

If you award the crown to the highest ranked below 1700 player, then it's unfair to players who got knocked out in the 1st round because they faced zoeyk .

You'd have to effectively separate the 2 groups and then you're back to having 2 tournaments, and the below1700 group is not really participating in the "open" tournament.

I'd say, let's see how this starts off, and start thinking about another below1700 tournament with a silver crown when this takes off.
