Possible sale of original Pente game
Posted: Nov 5, 2000, 8:59 AM

In the 1970's I bought a Pente game that was
being sold by the originator for the purpose of raising
money to market the game. It is laminated and mounted
on a rigid board. There were only 1000 made and each
copy was numbered. I am posting to see if there might
be any interest in the purchase of this. Contact at
listener88@h...

Interesting! Maybe we could have a pente club
auction for this board?
I have a wood laminated pente
board that was given to the nightclubs in Dallas back
in the 70s to promote the game. Mine has no numbers
but may be the same board? Does anyone else have old
origional pente boards? I heard a glass board was listed on
ebay at one time.

I don't want to turn this site into pente ebay,
but I think we can use the board to auction this
item if solitude is willing. Personally, I have some
interest, but I am torn. On the one hand, I consider this a
valuable collector's item for me. On the other hand, I
know that Pente boards are hard to come by and that
there are people even within this club who would like a
board just to play on and do not have one. This latter
sentiment would probably prevail in my case; thus, I
probably would not bid.

I have a couple of
questions for solitude. First, do you still have the stones
and bags that came with the original? Second, do you
have or could you take a picture or two of the set?
People might like to see what they're bidding on. If you
have pics, I would ask you to forward those to either
myself or Mark Mammel, and we will post them on the club
site.

Speaking of ebay and pente boards, there are some
always for sale there. Mostly black and red tube games.
I have not seen a wood or glass board but did hear
a glass board was offered at one time.
The board
mentioned by mysolitide would be a great collectors item
and it probably wouldn't hurt to play a few games on
it.
Can't a picture be posted on each of our member pages?
We should all have a picture of ourselves there. It
would be a great tool for increasing our membership.

Hello Aaron..
Yes I have the stones and bags.
In fact the board has never been played on. The game
came with a signed and notarized certificate of
ownership/authenticity. My game was bought in June 1978 and is number
408. I will try to scan the certificate and also get a
picture as soon as I can.
