lol yes....I gots a witnesses tizzle. Seriously, he/she/it wasn't obeying tourney rules and I have a witness who may or may not come forward for fear of her/his safety......Word on the street is mm_ai8's pretty heavily connected with some unsavory characters so I won't hold it against said witness (I'll call her "Zartica" to keep her anonymity anonymous)....anyway, beware of the h10 2nd.

LOL Yeah I entered red's room while he was playing mm_ai8 and mm was not playing tournament rules, it was kind of weird. I don't know if by default the game is unrated and it allows mm to play like that or if mm just felt like "breaking the rules"...hehe

partica has hit on it: if the game is rated, mm_ai will obey tournament rules. if it is unrated, it will most likely not (it wants to win). Making it unrated removes the tournament rule restriction for both humans and computers.

I don't pretend to understand the entire AI, but in this case I think I know what is happening.
The AI has an "opening book" of common openings that it uses for the first few moves of the game. If you are playing as black and you don't play your first move down one of the openings in the opening book, then the AI just picks a random spot inside or on the edge of the tournament rule line.
It doesn't respect the tourney rules, it's true!
The opening book appears to have the following first moves for black, if you play anything else you might see the tournament rule broken. L9,N8,N9,O9,M9,M10,M8,L10

Okay, everything I said was wrong. It is clear that I haven't played an mm in quite some time. Apologies. The part I said about unrated allows humans to ignore the tournament is true though (right?)
