Most browsers have dropped support for Java in the browser, the "Join the game room" button won't work in the browser if you're using an unsupported one. If you want to make use of Java in the browser, Firefox ESR is one way to go.
Underneath that button is a link to install the game room on your desktop. That should work independently from your browser.
Might I encourage you to announce a few hours on a day you have available here in this thread. Your opponent can then let you know of they're available or not and propose a new day if needed. Same for when a date-to-play was missed, that way we can get some momentum and come to a time when you're both available.

Does either player still have an interest in continuing participation in the tournament? If not, it would be extremely helpful to let me know so I can decide (how) to proceed with the tournament.
