Choosing side in unrated games

I can't seem to find a way to play as other than player 1 in unrated games; others have recently invited me to play games when they are player 2 and I seem to recall being able to create them in the past. I'm probably missing something simple here.
Retired from TB Pente, but still playing live games & exploring variants like D, poof and boat

When you unselect rated games from the options, 2 more option settings should appear, one of which is the color you choose to play with. Doesn't that appear for you?
