victory and double threats defined

victory and double threats defined;

in pente and in gomoku, unless the opponant ignores singular threats all together, which is not really considered playing,
the only way to win is to achieve a double threat or greater.

in gomoku there are only 3 types of initial double threats.

3x3
3x4
4x4

a 3x3 or a 3x4, or a 4x4 with both of the solid 4s or hyper extended 4s blocked at one end. or a split 4 x solid 4 with the solid 4 blocked at one end, or a split 4 x split 4 with no end blocking required.a 4x4 with both of the 4s unblocked at both ends is not possible as a initial double threat because it implies there was already either a 3x3 or a 3x4 present in the prior move, thus not defined as initial.

how ever in pente, since there is the aspect of capture, there are more types of initial double threats to win the game with;

3x3
3x4
4x4
3+threat of 5th capture
3+4th capture and 2 threats of 5th capture there after.
3+4th capture and capture trap for 5th there after
3+3rd capture and threat of double capture there after that if blocked opponent falls into atari twice.
3+double capture =4 captures and threat of 5th capture set as a atari capture trap.

this list is incomplete...

there are many more to add, but i must head to work now, ill finish the list later....

Scire hostis animum - Intelligere ludum - Nosce te ipsum - Prima moventur conciliat - Nolite errare

3 + attack on a double keystone pair is a pretty common one

Retired from TB Pente, but still playing live games & exploring variants like D, poof and boat
