Game: homebrew vs. pente_gon 01/14/2019

I would like to share one more game.

I played 6. M7. I am not sure if it was best move, I didn't analyse but it was looking nice to me. The most interesting part start from 7th white move.

After 7. N11 I had initiative but had to be very careful. My opponent forced one capture and I sacrified 3 more captures but kept tempo and finally won after balancing on the edge

Question is if was there any chance to win for white after 7. N11?

I think 17 L5 is a mistake and that J7 should be played instead.

White is up 2-1 on captures (with #3 pending) and is threatening both J8 and Q6, either of which should win if ignored. Black's best continuation is probably 17...J8,L5. I don't think you can afford to give up the initiative so quickly with 18...L6,M5 so instead 18...H9,L6,J4,L6 and then it seems like the passive ...O9 is practically forced. With the initiative and the capture lead, I definitely prefer White.

It's no use going back to yesterday, because I was a different person then.

Thats right, no more to say. And if we talk about unnecessary capture (it was not obvious there) - you can see another example of it in game below, but in this case it is more obvious:

I was dominated and considered resignation after 14. H9 but decided to continue game and luckily for me my opponent played 19. Q9 instead of blocking four.

Yes, that is one of the most important cases where capturing is the wrong move: if it removes an opponent's stone that would allow you later to safely play "into a capture." Interesting game!
