another puzzle

I have a game-based puzzle that watsu skimmed through last night...it's black to move with a forced win in 7. The first 3 moves should be enough to show the idea.

I think that if you go straight to J7, then if white doesn't occupy M7, you play M7 and it's done. If white plays M7, you take the pair creating the double threat that way.

No, it's still 7, but white needs to play at M10 and then extend to N10 or O10 to make it 7 moves. That's why ideal puzzles are so challenging to make, there are often different approaches which end up with the same number of moves, but only if the other side is playing to prolong the puzzle, which doesn't always happen in an actual game scenario. Good catch by pente_gon on the second line!
Retired from TB Pente, but still playing live games & exploring variants like D, poof and boat
