Boat pente Game: watsu vs. ivans73 10/12/2017

I thought this was an excellently played game by Ivans73, who continually surprised me with defenses which I hadn't anticipated in my analysis. I haven't gone back through it move by move to see whether in hindsight I might have been able to win more quickly or easily, but won't bother since I think Ivans73 would have thrown something unexpected into any ideas for a quicker win as well.

An extremely well-played and interesting game!

I think the immediate 22. K7 wins 2 moves sooner for white since 23. J8 cannot be stopped because there are no pairs to attack across, i.e.:

22. K7 J8 23. J7 and wins next move.

agreed. Also, 23. H10 can be ignored, right?

Agreed, I definitely didn't play best offense here. I was expecting 19. ... M11 and the J9 response threw me off my analysis, so I responded too quickly. 20. J9 should also win more quickly, which is what I would have played after 19. ... M11.
If 23. H10 is ignored, then 24. K13 follows.

I'm confused.

19...M11 20. J9 and you lose immediately to 20...J8*. Did you mean 20. J8 for white?

Also 19...M11 would have been a weaker move for him. He loses more quickly to:

19...M11 20. J8 G10 21. K7 J9 22. M13 and wins next move.

Yeah, it has to be 19. ... M11 20 J8 to block the capture. Black can then harass that pair, but it wouldn't lead to anything, and then white can hassle the pair created by the 19 .... M11 play.

My apologies for the confusion; I usually double check that what I've typed is what I meant to type and in this case didn't. Change 20. J9 to 20. J8 in my reply and it should make more sense. You're no doubt also correct that 19. ... M11 loses more quickly for P2 than J9 does. I'm still learning the boat ending phase and don't always read the defenses correctly. In the cases of either 19. ... J9 or 19. ... M11, 20. J8 wins more quickly than the move I made here.
