An interesting position came up here, which is unique to poof pente, beginning with black's capture at move 13. N8. Because black now has 6 of white's pieces, white can't capture black at L6, since this would play into a poof and thus would give black another 2 pieces and remove the white piece from L7, thus allowing black to play at L7 on the next move and capture 2 more pieces for the win. The closest analogy to this in regular pente would probably be a situation in which a player could not capture because it would set up a double capture for the win on the next move, but this position seems more interesting than that (to me anyway) since a stone is removed by the move into a poof position of the player capturing which allows the next player to play to make a single capture which now wins the game because of the previous sacrifice move by the other player.
Retired from TB Pente, but still playing live games & exploring variants like D, poof and boat
