Turn-based bug?
Posted: Mar 4, 2011, 4:21 PM

Right now, the game board only loads for the first game I click on. After I place that one stone in one game and try to open another of my ongoing games, Java won't load any of them. I have to close my browser, reopen it and make one more move in one more game. Then I have to close my browser again, reopen it, etc . . . It takes forever to go through 15 or 16 games that way.

Any idea what's going on?

I've had that problem for quite some time. I could usually go to a following game and have it work, but the lastest update of Firefox yesterday started requiring a complete browser shutdown.

I switched to using IE for Pente, and the problem still occurs, but I can wait a few minutes without closing the browser and pull the game up successfully.

I thought it was just MY computer that was the problem. I've been having this problem for months. I have to make a move, leave the site & shut down the browser and then go through the whole restart process just to go from one game to another.
I'm glad to know I'm not alone but that doesn't fix the problem - whatever it is.

Mine just started doing it a day or two ago. It was right after I last updated Firefox, though. I also dropped the IE tab add-on a while back, so I haven't tried it on IE yet.

Well that was quick. Firefox had an update waiting when I got home today that fixed my problem. All's well on haggis' dashboard now.

I've done everything I know to do to get rid of this problem but as of today I STILL have to go through the whole shutdown rigamarole to move from one game to the next. Does anyone have a clue why???

I believe that it is an issue with the Java console. At home I uninstalled and reinstalled the console, and that seemed to have a positive effect.

I found in one of your games the last move that was played was not 2 stones, I don't know why that was or why the server registered it. I removed the last move so it should be available again for you to move now. Let me know if there are any other issues.

That way we can't resolve anything, I can reinstate the game or next time let me know and I can hunt down the bug with you. But I can't do much if the game is not active.

I think what happened is that the 2 connect6 moves that were registered were the same and that produced the error. I have added additional input checks so that that doesn't happen anymore.

Or rather, shouldn't happen anymore. If it does, report back and I'll keep digging for other bugs.

No worries, didn't mean to come across as commanding. I'm not expecting it to happen again now (here's hoping)
