Viewing past games
Posted: Dec 10, 2012, 7:23 PM

When I try to view a past game from one or another player, in turn-based pente, I can only see computer code on my screen. It didn't used to be this way.

What to do?

Hey...an Oscar Wilde quote...just read that the other day!
Seems to me that I remember world chess players were not only allowed to consult with their advisors on next strategy play at the end of a days session but that that was convention. Maybe some pente players have higher standards though in turned-based play.
I thought it was cool to see highest rated players games at Richard's (? site where you play by e-mail) and players used their self-programmed pente computer programs against each other.

I have the same problem if I use the link to the game from the message at the end. I find if I go into the DB straight, it pulls up fine though. Looks like java background code when I use the link though.

I haven't been able to reproduce this and I 'll keep an eye on it (and this thread from now). But to be clear, what do you mean by "computer code"? A Java error/Exception in red? Or something else?

Can you post a screenshot here when it happens again?

pastgameserror.jpg (269.2 K)

Definitely a java issue which may be a chrome issue

Can you paste the link here that was clicked as well?

Was that from a message after a game was finished? Or was that clicked from within the applet, on the link that says "view other game in this set"?

It was the message after the game was finished. I will post the next one that comes up. I deleted that message already. It was the link in the message that says "View Completed Game" or whatever it says.

I believe I have tracked down this bug and that it only affected non-rated games. An extra digit from the game ID would get trimmed from the URL making it invalid, I didn't find the reason for that but I padded the message so the URL wouldn't get trimmed.

If it happens again, let me know.
