First Connect6 Stalemate at Pente.org
Posted: Dec 12, 2008, 1:23 AM

Uhh...what happens if you have a stalemate in a game? Jaqueline and I have a turn-based C6 game that is currently over 200 stones and we are quickly running out of possibilities to get 6 in a row. Unless a terrible error is made by one of us, this game is certainly headed for a stalemate. Is this going to result in a code glitch? What happens to the set based scoring when you have a win on one game and a stalemate on the other? Does the set also become a stalemate?

EDIT: Here is the game in question.

it should record it as a draw, but you'll have to fill the whole board. if you win one game and the other is a draw then you win the set.

cool...I didn't know that this had ever come up in a rated game before. Figures it was jaqueline again...lol. Well that is cool that the code will handle it. We probably have a couple hundred stones to go, but the board is filling up such that it is getting extremely difficult to setup a 6-in-a-row.

Thanks again Dweebo!

Well I don't think we have had a draw occur yet, so let us all know if it happens, I would like to see the end result!

Well, we are currently at 228 stones. I have the center of each side (ie. K1) and all 4 corners filled in. I will definitely post the game when it is finished. It is definitely turning into some sort of pente mosaic.

I don't understand why carson would win the set if our second game in the set is a stalemate. Of course, if I were the winner of the first game I may be able to create a logical explanation for it...

We are at 256 stones now...I think it is officially a stalemate. I don't think there is any place left on the board for either of us to possibly get 6 in a row. At this point we are just waiting to fill in the rest of the grid.

Well at long last here is a Pente.org draw in a rated game. Check it out...

Who's gonna be the next to repeat this?

On turns 19, 20, and 21 white could have won with J16 H17, so it should have ended before it filled the whole board. In spite of that it is an interesting game.

Yeah...I'm glad I caught that mistake around the 20th turn before Jaq did...lol...It is hard to end in a stalemate without one or both players making some mistakes along the way. It was not a clean game, but the end result was cool.

About week ago I got newletter from connect6.org, this is fragment of message:

In order to prevent from draw games, we have two promising proposals for rule extensions as described in http://www.connect6.org/web/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=157&Itemid=159&lang=en

I think button "offer draw" would be very useful in connect6 games. For example here are my 2 games where we both ageed to take a draw and don't have to fill the whole board:

In my opinion we (I & Carson75) problably also fill the whole board in one of our games.

Kolia, I take that as a considerable compliment as I was fairly certain I will mess up our game well before it comes down to a draw....But you just gave me new hope, so I will try much harder to make it so.
