a few thoughts on Pente puzzles
Posted: Nov 28, 2008, 4:53 AM

Here are a couple of different general thought trains I've had recently in terms of Pente puzzles.

1.) Puzzles as a test of Pente skill-
in chess and Renju, skill solving game problems is sometimes used (or can be used) to award a title to those who are very skilled at it. As examples- for renju, Nosovs has a link for renju problems which if solved might potentially qualify one as a 1 Dan renju player. Chess problem creators and solvers also have titles.
So, theoretically at least Pente could have something similar.

2.) Pente problems needn't be limited to the formula of win this game in x moves- chess problems often ask for the best move in a position or are problems set up in order that one player may gain a material advantage; something similar might be doable for Pente problems as well- fastest way for white to get two pairs or best (most threatening, I guess one could also say) move in a given position.

Retired from TB Pente, but still playing live games & exploring variants like D, poof and boat

interesting stuff,...perhaps it would be nice if nosovs or richardiii made a puzzle for us to solve
and in the mean time i'll try to make more puzzles. im still learning how to make em,...still a rookie. but i can do better i think.
perhaps ill look at the other puzzles that have been made to get some inspiration of style.
