Movies That Need To Be Seen.
Posted: Feb 25, 2007, 7:21 PM

Hello Everyone.

This forum topic is one I have been wanting to start for awhile now. I love good movies. We all have certain flicks etched in our memories over the years as ones we were impressed with or strongly effected by, and we all have seen some more recent ones that we would like to recommend. The purpose of this forum is to spread the word about those we would like others to see.

Here is how it works; everyone is invited to list a movie or a whole slew if you like. The only rule is, you have to give a very brief description of both the movie, and why you recommend it. Don’t give any surprises away. We who haven’t seen it yet would like to be surprised too when we see it. Other than that tell all you want about it.

The only other thing is, be sure and to remain on topic, meaning no pente discussions, no jaunts into why karlw should be banded from the site(), and no crass behavior. Unless you have a movie to recommend or discuss, don’t post.

I hope to pick up a lot from all you good peeps, and I am stocking up on popcorn. Hehe, lets have fun.

I'll start us off.

Here is one off the top of my head. I tend to like eccentric avant garde flicks, and this story is sharp and fits my tastes well. It’s a little dark, but very intelligently done.

The name of the movie is Memento. Its about a guy with a memory problem trying to solve his wife’s murder. There is a very unique and strange twist at the end. I hope you like it

Ohhh I saw that movie Momento. Very strange. It has that gal from the Matrix movies, her character is not so nice a person in this one though. I liked the way the guy kept posting notes and writing all over himself just to remind himself of what he figured out. Very clever!

Another strange movie was Spun. Its about a bunch of crank heads, and it gets pretty weird. Made me feel like i was on crank watching it. And i never done any drugs before.

I got the movie Dungeons and Dragons as a present and I had never heard of it before. It is a fantasy where there are common people and mages. The young empress is trying to make everyone equal but the evil mage is trying to take control away from her. Whoever has the rods to control the dragons has power.
Not the best storyline ever, but the special effects are amazing.

I like Vampire movies. here are some of my favorites:

Fright Night (a very fun fright)
Salem’s Lot (scary & creepy)
Bram Stoker’s Dracula (romantic)
Dracula (Bela Lugosi) (love his voice and his piercing eyes.)
Subspecies (Radu is a great nasty vile vampire)
Near Dark (edgy )
Nosferatu (1922) (very eerie and dream like)
Shadow of the Vampire (dark humorous spin on the making of Nosferatu)
Vampire Circus (one of the best 60’s vamp movies)
Razor Blade Smile (aaaahhh Sexy! And very sureal)

If youre in a heady mood to contemplate the mathematical basis for existence, check out the movie 'Pi'. Arguably one of the coolest soundtracks ever as well.

And if You liked 'Pi' You should see another movie from this director 'Requiem for a dream'. It's about drug addicts from interesting point of view because this is not only about teenager but also about mother of one of them (she became addicted to some pills). It also have a great soundtrack made by Clint Mansell & The Chronos Orchestra

also by darren aronofsky (director of pi and requiem): The Fountain (haven't seen it, but heard good things)

Movie you should all see: The Departed

Best Picture, Director (Scorsese) 2007

This movie made me a Scorsese fan in much the same way that his other movies didn't.

It's no use going back to yesterday, because I was a different person then.

"This movie made me a Scorsese fan in much the same way that his other movies didn't."

Casino, Goodfellas, Raging Bull, Taxi Driver. How could you not like scorsese?

Or do you just have the hots for leonardo DiCRAPio

Are you incapable of not being a dick, Sam? Raging Bull and Taxi Driver are two very good movies, but that's as much because of De Niro as Scorsese. I respect him as a director, but I didn't find as much to love in his movies as by certain other directors, and that changed with "The Departed." Now go harass someone else.

P.S. DiCaprio's performance might have been the best out of the stellar cast, but homophobia does tend to skew perspectives.

It's no use going back to yesterday, because I was a different person then.

CASINO....lol....thats the movie with the Rolling Stones track "Shelter" which in my humble opinion is the only good song they ever wrote. Sorry Rich I got off point for a min but I've been tryin' to recall that for about a year now lol....badass movie to say the least.... a real feather in Scorsese's cap in my humble opinion....to be sure DeNiro does share credit with the director (as well as Joe Pesci and Sharon Stone in arguably one of their best performances, hers prior to 'Bobby', but alas as a supporting actress, and his since 'My Cousin Vinny' another must see, Ok my parenthetical's runnin' on a bit....lol, or Goodfellas), but it was definately Scorsese's Bad-Assness and vision that brought this gem together....you might say he developed a recipe, yes, but its a damned good dish to be sure. PS....Princess bride=One of the best movies EVER!!!!! and :P to anyone who disagrees!!!!
