@madmike - the 916k figure is only showing the top 20 first moves by black. The non top 20 moves add an extra 20k or so games, I'd guess, based on the 937,082 matching games in the DB. The DB says it has 1,112,160 games, but that likely includes both variants and speed games. I'm taking a wild guess and saying the 1M+249 figure is non speed with variants.
Retired from TB Pente, but still playing live games & exploring variants like D, poof and boat

well in that case, "Congratulations to everyone who's played a game in that million." and to rainwolf and his predecessors for keeping pente.org up and running.

it has been proposed in the past that the database be 'edited'. the reason for this being some feel the perfect game has been solved and to reveal it somehow defeats the game. at least as i understand their point. perhaps it has (not so sure but what do i know). i can say that in the 1 mil+ games in the db, i prob wouldn't know it if i saw it. lol but rest assured fellow pentonians(?)! i spoke w/ rainwolf and he assures me that the database has never been edited and every game entered is still there. for better or worse, lol. so ty everyone for your contributions! and here's to 1 million more!

There are a huge number of possible positions with pente, so it would be very hard to prove that any particular algorithm is the most optimal... but as Invictus said, if you do find the perfect game, let me know!
