Connection game (like Hex) with captures
Posted: Nov 17, 2022, 5:04 AM

I'm curious whether anyone has played Onyx, a connection game which has captures. It looks like it's playable at Richard's PBeM server - http://www.gamerz.net/pbmserv/onyx.html

I know Christian Freeling, the designer who runs mindsports and invented Havannah and Dameo, made a couple variants with capture recently.

Lox and Knight Vision I believe.

I haven't played them, but if they're half as a good as Hex, then they're really good.

Cool, good to know there are other cap games out there. IDK whether or not I'd enjoy them, just that caps make a huge difference in my enjoyment of Pente over gomoku.

Yeah Gomoku is fun but pretty much a strong 6/10 for me. It's enjoyable, but nothing like Pente for me.

Both Hex and Pente are 10/10 games. Both just really deep and a lot of fun.

For those interested the Hex community has a discord where live games are scheduled and strategy is discussed. It's pretty active.
