No, it needs time to calculate moves after the opening book.

So it can take up to six or seven minutes to calculate a move and it's a computer...?

I have no idea the algorithms MM coded into his program, but let's assume for the sake of argument that the AI needs to looks at an average of 10 moves per turn and searches at a depth of 16 ply (8 moves ahead) in order to find a strong move. That would entail about 10^17 positional evaluations, or

100,000,000,000,000,000 (100 quadrillion) evaluations.

Even doing 1 million evaluations per second (which I'm fairly certain is an overestimation), that would still take 100 billion seconds or 1,666,666,667 minutes to choose a move.

Given that, I think waiting a few minutes is fair.

It's no use going back to yesterday, because I was a different person then.

Try speed gomoku at piskvorky.net To my knowledge, there's no good AND fast Pente AI, unlike gomoku.

get a better computer. I have a Sager laptop. 32 GB of RAM. intel i9, 1TB 970 EVO Plus NVMe SSD, GTX 1650Ti 4GB, 144Hz screen, and it can do AI 12 with VCT on in less than 10 minutes. AI 8 in about 10 seconds or less.

Highly recommended.

By the way, I was referring to the downloadable AI, not the online one.
