Pente Player Introduction
Posted: May 31, 2019, 9:53 PM

Hello. I thought I might introduce myself since my first post was a jump in answer to a Watsu question....
My name is Marty. I started playing Pente while a student at OSU in 1980. I have great memories of sitting up late in the dorm room playing Pente and eating Dominos pizza (Sorry Marti!). I am pretty sure I played a few games here way back in the 2000"s or so. Not sure what my user name would have been. But I am more of a sitting across the table from opponents kind of player.
About 10 years ago I met Cat Gabrel and the Dermers through kite flying and my interest in Pente was soon rekindled, and has been peaking lately. I received an autographed Decipher game from Gary in 2017.
Probably will not hear much from me tho. I'm not very good at posting on forums.

Thanks for the answer and the intro and welcome back, Marty. Nice boards!

Retired from TB Pente, but still playing live games & exploring variants like D, poof and boat

I guess I am better at forums than I thought. Never been able to post a picture so easily....
Here is my original set from back in late 80/early 81.
Thanks for looking.

Well, My Pente nerd meter went off this weekend when I heard that Gary was coming to town for the Rose Festival Kite fly in Broken Arrow. At dinner Saturday night I showed him my Antipalos game. It was loud there but I am pretty sure he said he had heard of it but not seen one before. Sunday he challenged me to play some Pente and whooped me 4 out of 5. That one game felt good tho....
And I asked him to sign my original board:
