Whatever happened to the 1980 version?

My boards all have two sets of corner marks. A second set three further out cross-hairs over from the first. The usual center start, then player 2 had go on or outside the center, then player 1 second move on or outside somewhere second parameter. Then all else is common Pente. Is there a name for that rule set? These boards aren't even set up that way. Can't attach a sample...

I see. My best guess is that the outer markings you see on the D and Q lines, and on line 4 and 16 are markings that occur on Go boards, and since both are played on a 19x19 grid, I'm guessing that Go boards are ancestors to Pente boards.
My own physical board has identical markings to the last picture you showed. I don't know of a different rules set though.

Back in 78 or 79 when I learned by play, there were three sets of rules for Pente beginner, advanced and pro. Beginner no move other than center start was restricted, then you moved to advanced (which is like your tournament rule), then you advanced to pro which is as I described in my opening message.
I'll have to delve deeper into what you call Go. Obviously the years of playing the old rules on a physical board with friends didn't fully prepare me for all the new rules I see here. But I'm learning and I like it!

Bye the bye, I went to college in Okmulgee, Oklahoma and my board is marked "Copyright 1980 Gary Gabrel". I read up on Go and it's different but, similar (which is were Gary came up with it, according to Wikipedia). NOTE: I never met Gary personally...

Back to the original question, what happened to the first three move. Center, first row, then player one on second line? I learned this right when it emerged in '78 in Okmulgee, OK...
