Well said Alison!! I totally agree with everything you said.

Regarding the censorship/free speech/1st amendment argument, pente.org is not the US government and therefore it is my understanding that we can censor forum postings as we see fit. I see no need to protect a player's ability to spew bile on the forums.

I think you'll find that any large internet forum is constantly removing/censoring content from internet trolls/spam/etc so this is not a new idea we are proposing.

A 4th option is to move to a moderated forum (all posts must be looked at by an admin prior to showing up on the forums). I don't really want to do that since it is annoying to users and annoying to admins, but it would definitely help solve the problem.

I think the original list of proposed "guidelines" is over-restrictive and we should try to just pick a few general principles that are clear.

I agree with everyone who is against the "stay on topic" and "don't revisit topics", there is not a need for those and just creates confusion. I looked at the original list and feel these should at least be maintained in the final list.

1. Be civil. (No personal attacks. Do not feel compelled to defend your honor in public.)
2. No Trolling. (According to wikipedia, A troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room or blog, with the primary intent of provoking other users into an emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.)
3. No offensive, insulting, profane or vulgar remarks are allowed.
4. Pornographic content is not permitted on this site.

#1 and #2 are really the reason this thread exists.

#3 and #4 would already have been removed anyway.

Many thanks to the peanut gallery for making my point for me here. Through this thread I've been referred to explicitly and implicitly as socially retarded(btw its not nice to pick on retards blackklab, my busdriver's got a bone to pick with you now....), a 'bile spewer' (lmfao), drama monger, forum hijacker, one who denigrates others to validate my insecurities and feelings of powerlessness in my life(gawd what does that make you then blackklab? Have you always exuded bitter anti-christmas sentiment or did you have an attachment installed?), self aggrandizer(Errrr newsflash sweetie, condescension and 4-dollar words don't exactly pave the road to humility) 'censorship card' player(can I trade up for a race card?) lol(No doubt I'm leaving a few out but you get my drift).
Not framed in the format that squirrl is a _____ or Erik you are a________ or whatever, after all, the new n' improved path to enlightenment wouldn't abide that now would it(Besides that would be what is known as "Not Hiding Behind Some BS Code of Conduct in the Name of Bein' a Pansy" and well heck, we don't wanna actually ADDRESS an issue, now do we?)?
So now that you've got this neutered wanna-be of a discussion forum, what, pray tell, can you pat yourselves on the back and be proud for(besides the shiny badge for Bravely Running Away From That Which We Do Not Agree With Nor Like and Therefore Need Not Understand Much Less Acknowledge or Hear. And Which Needs to be Labelled.)? Well at least when zoey called me an a-hole or the devil there was something we could look back on and laugh about fer cryin' out loud ......the overreaching assumptions and stonethrowing by blackklab(do I know you anyway? Next time you think you're qualified to size me up drop me a line pal....it'd make for an interesting discussion at the very least methinks), alison(who are you and what'd you do with that smart, attractive lady?), and dweebo (just ask for Ole' Blue....I'll be the one in the corner holding my breath, waiting for the reply ) here are just, well, they're just mean. Worse than that they're more BORING than watching mm_ai1 play itself on a million minute timer..... But HEY!!! They didn't say S#!+, D@^^, F^@<, P!$$ or H311 so that makes 'em good people don't it? Lol.....and the mirror is to blame for your reflection too ;P

Plain and simple, if the way you guys roll is indeed the path to righteousness, then I'm damned happy to be the Devil.

Ironically up2ng (with whom I had the biggest beef of all here at the site) was the only one here with the sac to actually get down in constructive dialogue without eventually melting down into some nancy-type "those who are not borg are SOOOOOO not borg" density. That speaks a volume IMO. Respect to ya Dean. Peace to you and yours.

Now if everyone's done talkin' smack then I'll be on my way.......Much Love and respect to the rest of y'all....

Erik, perhaps I should make myself a bit clearer which I will do for your sake. But note that my previous comments are not directed exclusively at you as there are many examples of this throughout the forums over several years from what I can see.

As far as you personally are concerned, you know I like you, and I think you have a great talent for creative thinking and a potent writing style that really stands out. I have said this to you privately. I know that your honesty is a passion with you and represents a commitment to getting to the truth as you see it. I respect this. The closest person in here to you on that score seems to me to be r3. I mostly enjoy what you write and although I often find my brain twisted and jolted by the experience, your honesty and energetic style is generally refreshing. I doubt anyone would want that to change, and I would certainly miss it. I mean this sincerely.

Surely you would admit though that there are times when exchanges between various people (including you) within a thread have become very personal and quite nasty and have all but taken over the thread? The forums (general section mostly as zoey mentioned) are full of these battles. You know you have been involved in some of these, and there are many you have not been involved in.

I ask you this(although this applies to anyone in this situation): Is your ability to write with honesty and creativity dependent on having lengthy heated exchanges laced with personal insults? Are you saying that if a set of rules/guidelines constrains you (or anyone else) from such behavior that it renders you mute? Are you suggesting that such constraints would remove your motivation to write at all? Are you saying that you are unable to express yourself without being able to behave in this way? Are you suggesting that there is no other way to be honest and creative?

I am not sure how you would answer the above, but what I think is that you are capable of anything you set your mind to, and I doubt that tempering just this aspect of your forum contributions would ultimately prevent you from effective self expression or the pursuit of the truth.

Regards
Alison

No, baddsixx9. You can't just die. Life will be boring around here without you. Could not resist asking Alison why she thinks creating a new ID everyday qualifies as creativity. (Just keep it non-xxrated and I'll be happy to have Zoey interpret your rants for everyone else on the site)

Ok Up2ng, boot me, boot anyone who says anything you dont like. I find your attitude elitist, and if bowing down to your heavy-handed table-monitoring is what it takes to get along, consider me gone. Maybe before you delete or edit this post, you should replay the events for everyone to see. You are way too sensitive and controling.

Was anyone complaining about what was being said at that table? No, it was just one player venting that he was tired of all the nonsense and many of us trying to encourage him. So you boot that guy with no warning?

Your administrative power has gone to your head.

The events that took place:

One player said F U (spelled out) to another player in a room full of observers, who may or may not have been of any age. Whether or not the other player was offended by this is irrelavent. A 5 minute ban is hardly heavy-handed.

You called me a Nazi and were promptly booted, also for just 5 minutes. You should do a little reading and research about Nazis and the Holocaust before you say things like this -- it wreaks of ignorance and complete disrespect for the millions of people who suffered and were brutally murdered. I highly recommend a trip to the Holocaust museum in Washington DC.

Yes, there were many witnesses. They were all just as surprised at your over-reaction as I was.

The same curse-words were said by someone else in your 7/7 tourney just minutes before. You didnt say a word about that. In fact, on another occasion, the same player that you booted, you have threatened to boot just for not making sense, because you thought they were drunk. Sure looks like a personal problem.

I challenge you to show the text to Dweebo.

You are out of control.

First of all, Dweebo can read any of the text that goes on here whenever he chooses. In general, he does not, since obviously private discussions are held in the game rooms all the time and that is respected.

Along those lines, I'm not sure that it is appropriate for me to post the discussion here, but in the interest of clearing this up -- since you decided to make this into a public conspiracy worthy of the entire community's viewership even though this was a discussion between a handful of players and really should have remained that way -- I will show the relavent section for now:

observer1: yeah yeah]
observer1: it is what it is
observer2: [observer1] play [observer3] or [observer5]

admin1: his behavior was not acceptable

* observer4 has left the table *
observer2: oh no

----------------------

Just so it's clear, disrespectful actions like those shown in this portion of this chat are unacceptable here. If players cannot refrain from attacking each other in this type of manner, they are free to spend their time elsewhere.

If personal attacks like this occured in the 7/7 Tournament game rooms, and if I had noticed it, similar action would have been taken -- if those players were currently playing matches, they may have forfeited those matches as well.

I edited this message well after the fact to censor out the usernames involved in the chat. It's not going to matter in this case because of all of the following posts to the thread, but this should be how chats are posted from now on, if ever.

yeah, "if you had noticed" ...

you have an obvious bias against r3, that much is clear

this is a perfect example of an administrator having a bad day and carrying their own personal sensitivities into their role here. you can't see it, but you are out of control. take a vacation or something ... so we can get back to having fun

Up2ng,

First of all, I would like to express my gratitude that I am able to voice my opinion.

Aaaaand I appreciate all the work that Dweebo and others do to keep this website up and evolving. But let me enlighten you, it would all be for naught but for the people who play here.

You were not the host of that table. Nor were you playing. You are just another player in the table, not our lord.

One of the very best players that has ever played the game was expressing his frustration over all the nonsense that goes along with all the nonsense of points, little colored boxes, crowns/tiaras, win/loss records, etc. Obviously, he had lost the simple fun of sitting down with a bunch of smart people and relating to them person to person. Everyone else at that table but you was trying to encourage him to start playing again.

Yes, he said the f-word. ONE TIME!!! He was not talking about sex, or something profane. Nor was it a "personal attack". The man is frustrated.

Reading the text, you were not even paying attention to what was being said. You were talking about moves. You had a knee-jerk reaction, probably because of some other thing in the past. Yet at another table just minutes before, someone else used the term "f'ing b*tch" repeatedly, but you say you never saw that. Bullschidt. Nothing was done because they were kidding around, and your heavy-handed intervention would have tarnished your own tournament.

I didnt care for the f-word so much, but you have made it one of my very favorites now. If this had been at a party or at a bar, you would of had to throw me out too; that is, without my consciousness.

When you are the table-host, then you can dictate the terms. When you are just another guest in the table, and someone says or does something offensive, then bring it to the table-host's attention, and let them decide what to do. If you don't like how the table-host handles the situation, then leave the table. That's what we all have to do. Mature people talk to each other, and would let someone else know that they should tone it down; not just press a magic button with no warning or explanation.

Or are you better than the rest of us?

You said would not play me unless the game is rated. Fine, I see how important status is to you, and how truly sensitive you are. But you dictate nothing to me, dude. Seriously, you believe that you can come into a table and just take over? Did you want to keep this a secret because you dig the fear other's have for your administrative power? Boot me, delete my account if you wish; but your tyrannical childish sensitivity will not keep me away, or from telling you how it is. Having skills at the game of Pente, does not qualify anyone to be a dictator.

Player to player, pimp to pimp!!!

Poem by Pastor Martin Niemöller:

"First they came for the communists, and I did not speak out - because I was not a communist;
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out - because I was not a trade unionist;
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out - because I was not a Jew;
Then they came for me - and there was no one left to speak out for me."

Thank you Jacks. I agree with you. And I think this is no Pente.org without players like Rich or Zoey (they are playing good or bad).This is a wonderful site, Thank you Dweebo. Maybe Rich is having bad days. Maybe he needs to talk ...maybe he needs support. I am not an American but I like Americans. Best people in a world. Always ready to help and support each others.

A) If someone half my age and working with only a partial micron of knowledge and understanding for my experience and circumstantial set were so bold as to proclaim the status of the 'health' of my attitude, I'd be inclined to tell him [content deleted] too.

B) Rich is a big boy and perfectly capable of fighting his own battles, but, well he's also someone I admire and respect for GOOD reason so I created this ID to stick my nose in this when a friend told me about what happened.

C)up2ng is [content deleted] which if not for the protective cover in the anonymity of the internet, would carry a reasonable expectation of a serious ***-kicking as a consequence in the mind of any person possessing a modicum of common sense in the real world. [content deleted]

D)Unacceptable? First off noone ever even mentioned moderating the everyday goings on of participants at a game table as being your jurisdiction Einstein. People in the real world often use bad words Dean. [content deleted] Secondly, who made you judge and jury and christened you with the balls bigger than Alpha Centauri to label people's behavior? [content deleted] It'll be a long winter in hell before anything r3 has done is 'unacceptable' ...[content deleted].

E)People if you want something, then make it happen. Its THAT SIMPLE. Think about it. You don't need some idiot(s) with a badge monitoring communication to foster community.[content deleted] If there really is a peanut gallery legion begging and pleading for g-rated media here (I'm betting its prolly more like 3 or 4 squeaky wheels with "religious sensibilities" tho......either that or law enforcement types that would rather spend the night curled up with the latest edition of "Guns & Ammo" than talk to a girl) then they should take a page out of Alison's book. VOCALIZE. Say something intelligent and worth talking about to provoke and foster discussion. Learn how to be INTERESTING and influence discussion. 'Tis the ONLY way you're going to be able to accomplish your goal of molding and shaping your environment. The attitude of creating a position to 'take care of' the problem for you is nothing but laziness and apathetic whining on your part. Granted there might be some youngsters that frequent this site, but methinks they're all a lil' old for pacifiers. [content deleted]
