Thanks for the posts.

Not having Vista myself, nor having used it, I'm kinda in the dark myself too. As time goes by, most of us will probably become more familiar with Vista.
I have read that it is a bit super-paranoid about security, which can be more of a nuisance than a help for the home user.
I won't be getting it just yet, but I am interested in it, so I'll be tempted to purchase the Home Premium version (OEM naturalment) next time I buy a hard drive

>and as squirrel noted, i can't see what you are doing on your computer,
>i can just see what you are doing when you visit this site
>(like if you view the database there is a record of that).
>trust me, i have better things to do than watch what you are doing
>on your computer, or even on this site, it isn't that exciting.

I get questioned sometimes as to whether or not the chatting in the tables are recorded for review by administrators. Some folks are worried that they can't really have a private conversation and are afraid to talk because of it.

Personally, I would like to have more visual cues as to what is transpiring in private tables. Like it would be cool if in the main room a private table would begin to get blood splatters when a fierce argument is transpiring within, flash spy vs spy gifs when folks are having a little cabal, leak steam if the individuals in that table are performing disgusting acts on one another’s cyber-bod, and what ever room Karl is in needs to have a gif of a bear banging a tree. Don’t ask me why, it just seems right to me.

I just read the responses to this post. Speaking as someone who can eb a bit tempermental and who has gotten engaged in these kinds of arguments in the past, I don't think it is fair the way evedryone piled on KarlW and blamed him for a reduced interest in online pente.

Interest in online pente has seen fluctuations over the years, before KarlW was here. Also, flame wars were common lnog before KarlW was here, yet some of those flame wars occurred during periods of high interest and participation in online pente.

Many of the responses to KarlW struck me as unconstructive or instigative. I don't like it when people refer to someone as "childish" or "the problem" and then act in an insulting or condescending manner. What does that accomplish? It strikes me as a way to throw insults back at the person while making it appear as if the high ground is being taken.

I don't blame KarlW for being annoyed at nosovsky's comments. I have the utmost respect for nosovsky's pente skills. He and I have had many great pente battles. But I do not, nor have I ever, agreed with him at all about the database "incident." and Now, this current flame war started because nosovsky responded to del's activeX question by dredging up an old issue (in which I think novosky was in the wrong anyway) and taking a shot at KarlW in the process.

I really appreciate your comments, dmitri.

However, with Rich I at least know he's either kidding or drunk (or both) when he takes a shot at me, and I give as good as I get with him.

I tried to change my picture to a more current photo but I still see the old one. Which photo do you see next to my post?

dmitriking, if you are still seeing the old pic, then hit F5, or refresh, or clear your browser cache.

I find it quite ridiculous how a simple post turns into a tirade. If it wasn't for certain peoples abbrasive personalities it would never have to become ugly. I am just trying to figure out vista.

Just wrapped up a busy semester and thought I'd check in to the exciting forum section. Some things are the same: Del and Karl still fighting and squirrel being squirrel

Some things have changed: Partica! How the Hell are you? And Dimitri looking all CEO these days! What's up with that.

And for the record Del, where did everyone see a picture of your dog? I'm feeling a bit left out and who couldn't like that picture of yours?

Karl quoting me in his defense!!!! I hope we're still friends Del!

Del, did you get find a solution to the problem with Active X regarding this site?

Is it just a case of allowing it once and for all, for this site?

If you want any help with Vista, have a look at:

http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/winvista

and browse through, or post your problem there.

There must be lots of forums for Vista at the moment throughout the internet.

Active X - hasta la Vista

here, I found something that might help:

http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/winvista/t1174707509

I'll paste the reply that made more sense to the folk who want the IE solution:

"re: Vista won't allow...

It's a simple fix. In IE Click on Tools, Internet Options. Then click on the Security tab. Under Internet, click the Custom level... button. Scroll down until you see the section under "ActiveX Controls and Plug-Ins". Change the "Download Unsigned ActiveX Controls" & "Initialize and Scipt ActiveX Controls not marked as safe to scripting" to PROMT instead of DISABLE. Hit OK & OK again on the original window to apply changes. Just be careful of what you allow that's not signed, could be a virus."

ok, sorted?

Happy pente playing!
