I recommend "The Pursuit of Happiness" I think it's with Denzil Washington. About a guy very down on his luck, taking care of his young son. And finally makes it. Very well done and it's based on a true story. You really feel for the guy.

'The Illusionist' kicked the crap outta 'The Prestige' in my always humble and yet so delicate opine. 'Die You Zombie Bastards' for all you sickos in my, errrr I mean 'the' house. 'The Last Kiss' was to my surprise pretty engaging and more real than most lovey dovey stories I've seen in a long time, and karl I think you'd LOVE 'Alex Rider: Operation Stormbreaker'.....my 11 year old thought it to be a bit beneath his grade level, but the world domination theme would appeal to your softer side methinks. Other n' those, you guys GOTTA get to 'Transformers' whilst still avail on the bigscreen!!!!! That movie had me in STITCHES and completely amped to kick snot outta anything metal that dared give me a cross look for the next 2 days (Hey, noone said it was brain food, hmmmmk?). And yep 'The Pursuit of Happyness' was very good......good but seriously difficult for my Spawn and I to watch......not your average nicey-nice heartstring puller. Good to see ya feelin' better P

Awwwwww c'mon karl.....can't you take a joke anymore lol? Anyhoo back on topic, Robert DuVall is one of my favorite actors.......I'm sure most have at least a familiarity with him and his work, but for those who don't you should check his stuff out.....'Secondhand Lions' from 2003 was one that I thought was simply WONDERFUL but got pretty much no coverage or hype with Ugh, I can't remember his name from 'Blame it on Rio' and 'The Prestige' (the Brit guy)....Oh! Oh! Oh! Michael Caine! LoL...costarring in a story about 2 brothers with VERY interesting backgrounds, a boy they adopted and their pet lion lol. Good stuffs for sure....also 'Colors', 'Days of Thunder', 'Lonesome Dove'......countless supporting roles (imdb shows 128 entries for his roles!!).....definately one of the hardest working and in my opinion one of the best actors in Hollywood.....

I just saw the unrated version of Hannibal Rising. It was well done - very close to the book. Not as good as the others (of course it couldn't use Anthony Hopkins because it was about him when he was much younger), but still worth watching. It gives you an idea about how such a monster could have been created - and in that way it's quite scary. I'd recommend it to those who are into horror movies and especially those who liked the other Hannibal movies (Red Dragon, Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal).
Historically speaking, my favorite movie is the 1982 remake of The Thing with Kurt Russell. The music is great, the tension is unrelenting, the storyline is right on the money, the thing is just about as scary a creature as you can imagine - much better than the one in the original movie (and they do a good job making this apparent). I like almost everything directed by John Carpenter, but this is by far his best work. See it if you're a fan of horror movies or if you like movies that are just well done. It deserved an Oscar, but horror movies very rarely get nominated (the Shining being the only one I can think of off the top of my head).

Well Lorien, I have to agree that Mr Carpenter is a great director, and that The Thing was a really good creepy make, but his movie Prince of Darkness is more disturbing to me, which equals a great horror movie. By the way, as far as i know, John Carpenter writes and plays all the music to his movies.
Oh and part, yes the Evil Dead series was great, especially Evil Dead II.
The latest really creepy movie in my mind though is Silent Hill. That movie is one hell of a nightmare.

Oh my Gawd!!!! Silent Hill was F***in' creepy Rich!!! Some anger management in store for mr. wears an iron on his head or whatever that thing was. My kid told me it was scary and I'm like "OK, we'll see whats scary here." Now he holds my hand when I have to get up and pee at night. Movies on the same par in terms of sheer freakishness are '28 Days Later' and the newer 'Dawn of the Dead' and then of course, 'Sean of the Dead' LMAO

Movies that don't really need to be seen, but are recommendable.

I didn't like Brick. It got a lot of positive reviews from around the internet though, which is why I watched it. I couldn't relate to it though, but obviously a lot of people did.
I watched Everything is Illuminated yesterday. I really liked that one. Funny enough, I wasn't expecting it to be much good, and I reckon there'll be a lot of people who won't think much of it, but I thought it was a great story. It's one I could watch again.
(Editing from here on rather than make a new post)
I just watched Quadrophenia. It's a cult classic of a sort. I enjoyed it.
British film nearly 3 decades old now, set in the sixties during a time when "Gasp! The ghastly youth of today!" were running riot - drugs sex and rock and roll.. teen angst. Worth watching, and I'd be interested in what other people think of the film. Sting and Toyah star in it. The Who ... er... oh here:
MUST SEE in my ever so fluffy yet humble opine

'The Bridge'. Wow. Documentary by a crew who camped out on the Golden Gate Bridge for a year, which happens to be the most popular suicide destination on planet earth. The movie chronicles and includes attempts, rescues and successful ummmm 'flights' from the bridge. Not like a 'Faces of Death' thing at all mind you, far be it from that. The crew goes a step farther than statistics, commentary and the like by following up with the victims' families and friends who gave what in my experience is the most real and down to earth insight into a subject that makes most people literally turn their heads in another direction (WITHOUT stooping to the level of the gushing tears 'Oh why would they do this to me?' cliche'). Amazing film even if you're not a crazy person, but definately not for the faint of heart or those who like their blinders intact.
Also 'Fracture' with Anthony Hopkins. Excellent movie whodunnit style with the knowledge upfront of who did it but well, I don't wanna spoil anything so I hafta leave it at that.......not gory per se like the Hannibal series, but an engaging plot twist type flick. Only thing is I found myself rootin' for the so-called bad guy (I can tell you its about a guy that kills his wife after catchin' her doin' another guy) most of the way through the movie. Is that so wrong?
What is The BEST shootout scene EVER!?!?!?!

Two words people....."HOT FUZZ"!!!! The beginnings a lil' slow but you will be AMAZED, astounded, confused and utterly knocked stupid by this movie. Prerequisites for viewing: A semi-strong stomach as the violence is on par with the star's (Simon Pegg) last hit "Sean of the Dead", a penchant for British wit.....not so much Monty Python, but nonetheless dry, etc......Rent it and tell me that the shootout doesn't pale any comparison you've ever seen!!!! Good stuffs!!
