Good day, all.

So, I picked up this board several years ago while working at a thrift store. I have barely used it, as it is so large. (a little over 25 inches in length and width) It got pulled out of storage while rearranging some furniture, and I was curious about it. I am not finding information about this version anywhere, so I'm checking the hive mind here if anyone is familiar with it. All my searches for a 13x13 board lead to a much smaller version, meant to be portable.

Anyone have any ideas?

A jumbo board. Fascinating. I have a pretty big collection. I thought I had every version made. But never seen this one. Gary is on my Facebook friends list. And while he has helped with pente stuff in the past, he did say he's done with pente. So I probably won't want to bug him about this. He's in a different chapter of his life. But hey thanks for sharing, that is something. I like it. I'd even make an offer, but, I shouldn't be buying any more boards, I got too much already. Im fairly certain that's a prototype, and not many made. If you sell it, don't sell it cheap. Sell it for at least $60 or more. You can for sure list it as rare. I've looked at many ebay listings over last 2 decades and never seen one.

I was thinking of mounting it for display, since it's not the most pratical size for play. (I have no plans to sell it) If we ever end up in a bigger house, I'll try to set aside space for a permanent table. It appeared in an Atlanta thrift store in like 1999 or 2000.

What does your collection look like?

Over a dozen boards, most unique. Different colors, sizes, artwork, and materials. They are boxed up at the bottom of my closet buried. I also have a glass board. Which is the most expensive one, $350, 15 years ago. And a laminated wood one. A magnetic one And a unopened new in tube one with the plastic seal . Got most of them. Just not yours apparently.

What is the size of yours?

Just checked ebay. There is a glass board going for $200. A fair price. And no im not the one selling it. I have a feeling they didn't know the value, or, not enough pente enthusiasts around now. Dunno. But in my mind it should go for no less than $400. The glass boards are very rare. Not a lot got sold, and the break easy, and they are around 40 to 45 years old now.

Me personally, I dont like to play on glass board. The stones slide too easy. Vinyl is best. Lamianted wood second best. Cardboard one is 3rd best. And so forth.
Magnetic has pros n cons.

Here's another one I found on ebay today. Its not mine. But I do have one just like it. Its a nice rare collectable. Marble smoke print in back ground, with a center star. If you're a collector, this one, and the one that looks just like it but in dark brown, are high on the list of must haves.

My wife does not appreciate you tempting me with purchases of items we don't have room for.

My board is just over 25 inches, in length and width.

If was me, I would frame it. Teak frame, varnished. With plywood backing. Have it hangable, but also have somewhere stashed a set of foldout legs it can set on to become a playable table. Perhaps the aluminum ones for tv dinner trays, or perhaps even fancier from wood or brass.

I have a 19" layered bamboo Go board with volcanic rock stones that I bought back in the 80s when I lived in Japan, and I really like it. I recommend it highly.

Let me do a little research on that and I'll get back with you. I don't live in Japan anymore.
