Chrome and Firefox aren't allowing Java to run (?)

I know Java is a security nightmare but I didn't know the browsers were blocking it......how is everyone else getting around this (if it's not too much trouble)?

I am not aware of Firefox blocking it, and the applications are signed so your Java installation should let you run the applets.
They still run on my computer with the highest security settings.

Chrome stopped working but there is a temporary workaround that can be found in another thread.

I forgot to add that while Java plugins don't work out-of-the-box with Firefox either, it's click-to-play, but Firefox should remember that you want Java applets to run in the future after that 1st click.
